The animals live in stable associations; the smaller herds forming into larger ones temporarily. The herds may consist of hundred animals but can grow to thousand members. They have a strong defensive tactic; if they are attacked, the adults of the herd form a circle around the young and sick animals, face outward. Their sharp horns are a great barrier for predators.
